Legal Literacy - The process of revising the Election Law is currently on the agenda of Prolegnas 2026, where the process is currently rolling in the DPR. However, instead of running in an open and participatory manner, the process is now at a crucial junction and is colored by a tug of political interests that risks impacting the quality of Indonesian democracy in the future. To date, discussions on the revision of the Election Law are still limited to informal discussions among political party elites. There is no official revision draft of the Draft Law on the amendment to Law Number 7/2017 on Elections that can be referred to and reviewed by the public. In fact, the 2029 Election stage will begin in mid-2027. Time is running out while the people are left in uncertainty. If this revision continues without certainty, it is not impossible that the election stages will be disrupted or even delayed from the predetermined schedule.
Constitutional Court Decision has provided a clear legal foundation for the improvement of Indonesia's electoral system. However, the fundamental question that needs to be asked is whether the DPR and the government will really follow the direction of the Constitutional Court's decision? Or is there a hidden resistance that seeks to maintain the Constitutional Court's decision?status quo which favors the major parties? This paper argues that although normatively the Constitutional Court's decision has provided a momentum for change, the process of discussing the revision of the Election Law, which is closed and dominated by short-term electoral interests, has the potential to thwart the spirit of reform mandated by Constitutional Court. The people should no longer be spectators on the stage of a democratic charade that only benefits a handful of elites.
