Legal Literacy - This article discusses the importance of legal awareness in building an orderly society in Indonesia, as well as the challenges faced such as low legal education and ineffective socialization. It also outlines the factors that cause low legal awareness, its social impact, and solutions to increase public understanding and compliance with the law in order to create social stability and justice.

Legal awareness is an important element in the formation of an orderly and civilized society. In a country with cultural diversity and a legal system like Indonesia, the level of public legal awareness plays a crucial role in supporting law enforcement and justice. However, the phenomenon of low legal awareness in Indonesia remains a significant challenge. Although various laws and regulations have been implemented, in reality, many individuals do not fully understand or respect the applicable laws. This problem results in various forms of legal violations, injustice, and social instability. Therefore, it is important to explore the factors that cause low legal awareness in Indonesia and seek solutions to increase understanding and compliance with the law.

Indonesia, as a country with a complex and diverse legal system, faces a major challenge in creating high legal awareness among its citizens. Several fundamental factors cause the low level of legal awareness in Indonesia. One of the main factors is the lack of adequate legal education from an early age. Although some aspects of law are taught in schools, an in-depth understanding of rights and obligations is often not conveyed effectively. A limited legal education curriculum and a lack of training outside of school cause many individuals to not clearly know what is regulated by law and how they should act. In addition to the main factors, there are also other factors that cause low legal awareness, including:

  1. Responsibility;
  2. Mindset;
  3. Community economy; and
  4. Media or legal information.

In addition, weak socialization and law enforcement exacerbate the situation. The public often does not receive adequate information regarding the latest regulations or changes in applicable laws. The inability of the government and legal institutions to convey information clearly and affordably results in ignorance among citizens. Lengthy legal processes and complicated bureaucracy often become obstacles for the public to get involved in the justice system, which in turn reduces trust and compliance with the law.
