In Indonesia, the level of legal awareness is still relatively low, which can be seen from the high crime rate and the many violations that occur in various communities. This phenomenon shows that there are still many individuals who do not understand their rights and obligations in society, as well as the importance of complying with applicable laws. For example, acts of violence, theft, and fraud often occur, indicating that the public has not fully realized the negative impact of such behavior, both for themselves and the surrounding environment.

In addition, low legal awareness is also influenced by a lack of education and socialization regarding the law, so many people do not know or ignore existing regulations. Therefore, there needs to be more intensive efforts from various parties, such as the government and community institutions, to increase legal understanding in the community, so that it is hoped that it can reduce crime rates and create a safer and more orderly environment.

Actually, the level of legal awareness in Indonesia shows an increase from year to year, although the rate of growth is still relatively low. In 2020, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights through BPHN noted that only 6.9% of villages and sub-districts in Indonesia have been officially recognized as Legal Awareness Villages/Sub-districts. This shows that although there has been progress, there is still much that needs to be done to increase legal awareness in the community.

Then in 2024 the level of legal awareness in various regions has increased, one of the regions that has experienced an increase is the Lampung region, which can be seen from the statement of the Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Lampung Province, Sorta Delima Lumban Tobing. He said that Lampung is not satisfied until this stage, because there is still a lot of homework that must be completed; the number of villages and sub-districts that have been recognized as Legal Awareness Villages/Sub-districts in Lampung Province has only reached 137. This shows that although there has been progress, the challenges faced remain great. For this reason, it is important to continue legal education programs and increase community participation so that legal awareness can continue to develop and take root in everyday life.
