Dignified Repatriation in Handling the Online Scam Crisis

The protection provided by the Ministry of the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) is comprehensive and continuous, covering the phases before, during, and after placement. The restoration of these rights is most evident in the repatriation phase. The hard work of KP2MI through its technical implementation unit in Banten is clearly seen in handling the humanitarian crisis involving Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in the online scam and online gambling sectors, a very disturbing modern criminal phenomenon. Until the end of 2025, a total of 3,900 problematic PMIs had been successfully repatriated through the gateway of Soetta Airport. This figure is not just statistics, but the number of lives saved from the clutches of transnational syndicates.

The culmination of this commitment occurred on January 31, 2026, when BP3MI Banten again facilitated the repatriation of a second wave of 24 PMIs from Cambodia. This step is a very firm form of state legal intervention against the new phenomenon of non-procedural placement in sectors that are explicitly not recognized and prohibited by the Indonesian Government. Based on the strong mandate from Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, the State now takes a much broader active role, not only picking up and repatriating, but also carrying out comprehensive data collection, psychological assessments, and in-depth legal information gathering. This aims to minimize international legal risks that could ensnare workers in the country of placement and ensure that victims receive appropriate rehabilitation. The presence of the state in several "Rumah Ramah PMI" shelters is physical evidence that post-trauma protection is a top priority to break the cycle of poverty and repeated illegal placement.

Maintaining Dignity at the Nation's Gateway

The formation of the Ministry of the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) is a material manifestation of the constitutional promise that the State will never let its citizens struggle alone in other countries. This transformation affirms that the safety of the people is the supreme law (Salus Populi Suprema Lex). With the strategic position of BP3MI Banten overseeing the main entry and exit points of the country at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, the PMI protection system now has much stronger, more measurable, and uncompromising operational control over lawbreakers.

To humanize PMIs means providing end-to-end protection, from upstream to downstream. This effort includes everything from detecting modes of disguising tourist visas in the silence of midnight, to picking up victims of exploitation on the steps of the plane with respect. Preventing illegal departures and repatriating victims of online scams are concrete evidence that the dignity of every Indonesian Migrant Worker is a representation of the nation's dignity itself. Under the command of the new ministry and the dedication of officers in the field, we are building a foundation where every citizen who seeks a livelihood abroad can still stand tall, with their heads held high, as protected, respected, and fully humanized legal subjects by their own country. There should be no more neglected heroes, because in every drop of their sweat, there is a State responsibility that must be fulfilled.
