Digitalization and Physical Presence in Breaking the Chain of Exploitation
KP2MI realizes that protection in the 21st century demands a combination of digital innovation and the strength of personnel in the field. Digitalization of the protection system allows for more precise data tracking, but technology alone will never be enough without the preparedness of people of integrity. Syndicates are now increasingly clever, they take advantage of visa-free policies in the Southeast Asian region to deceive officers, or use visit and tourist visas as a cover for job placement in the Middle East and East Asia. This modus operandi is a direct attack on legal certainty and the safety of citizens who often do not realize the risks they face.
Sociological and field facts show that illegal individuals and intermediaries often take advantage of "critical hours" or surveillance time gaps, such as early morning or midnight, to pass prospective PMIs from inspection. However, under the direction of the Ministry of Manpower Protection, the physical presence of BP3MI Banten officers who collaborate intensively with Immigration and the Soetta Airport Police has proven to be able to break the chain of exploitation. Data analysis shows that the majority of those prevented, around 670 people destined for Malaysia and 337 people destined for Cambodia, were promised jobs in the formal sector such as manufacturing or domestic helpers with attractive salaries. In reality, without official documents and legal guarantees, they will only become easy targets for forced labor and physical and psychological violence.
