What are the requirements to participate in an internship program?

In addition, Apprenticeship Participants as referred to must meet the following requirements:

  1. Minimum age of 17 (seventeen) years for job seekers
  2. Physically and mentally healthy; and
  3. Pass the selection.

Participants who are still 17 years old must obtain approval from their parents or guardians.

The time limit for undergoing the internship period is a maximum of 1 year from the signing of the participant to start the internship. If there is no signature/written agreement, then the participant is not an intern but rather a worker/laborer in the company.

The Apprenticeship Agreement must contain:

  1. Rights and obligations of Apprenticeship participants;
  2. Rights and obligations of the Apprenticeship Organizer;
  3. Apprenticeship Program;
  4. Apprenticeship period; and
  5. Amount of allowance.

Therefore, companies that provide places for internships/apprentices must follow the existing procedures. If they do not follow, then it is certain that the company has violated the law. That is a little explanation regarding the rights and obligations of interns. More details can be seen in Law Number 13 of 2003 concerning Manpower and Regulation of the Minister of Manpower Number 6 of 2020.
