Background of Dynastic Politics

There are several things that underlie the emergence of hereditary politics, including:

  1. The desire to hold and perpetuate power. In this case, incumbents will do various ways and strategies so that power remains in their own hands or their families'.
  2. There is an effort to cover up leadership weaknesses. This is done by creating an organized group with a mutual agreement in creating a change of leadership. This effort is implemented so that leadership remains within the scope of family members. That way, various weaknesses committed while in office are not raised or exposed by the public.
  3. There is an effort to build political strength. This is done by placing children or family members in strategic positions. If this effort is successful, then political power is formed for the official.
  4. There is an effort to collect individual and family benefits. After successfully placing each family member in a strategic position, the benefits for the official will automatically be obtained as expected.
  5. There is an effort to close opportunities for other parties to occupy power. This effort is carried out in a systematic way through political collusion to close the way for people outside the kinship to enter the scope of political power.
  6. There are certain interests such as collaboration between rulers and entrepreneurs to combine the strength of politicians and the strength of capital.
