Legal Literacy - The tragedy of the collapse of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School building in Sidoarjo at the end of September 2025 is a gaping wound for the world of education and law in Indonesia. This incident, which claimed the lives of five students and injured others, must not stop at the narrative of "disaster" or "fate." When the facts on the ground indicate a careless renovation process, roof casting on the day of the incident, and a strong suspicion that the building was erected without a Building Permit (IMB), then the lens of justice must shine more sharply. This is not a sudden disaster, but the culmination of an accumulation of layered negligence. Criminal responsibility must be drawn along the chain of causality, from the party giving the order to the hand pouring the cement mix. Both the pesantren administrators as owners and those responsible, as well as the construction implementers in the field, both bear a portion of criminal responsibility that must be thoroughly investigated before the law.
