JAKARTA, LEGAL LITERACY - Former 10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla (JK), attended the Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday (May 16, 2024) to testify as a mitigating witness for the defendant Karen Agustiawan. Karen was charged with alleged corruption at PT Pertamina (Persero) for the period 2009-2014.

JK's presence at the trial attracted the attention of many parties, considering his role as Vice President during the period the corruption case took place. In his testimony, JK explained the national energy security policy, particularly related to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), which became one of the important points in the indictment against Karen.

JK stated that the policy regarding LNG was taken based on careful consideration and in accordance with the national energy conditions at that time. He also emphasized that there was no intervention from any party in the policy-making process.
