What is the first impression that comes to our minds when we hear the term debt collector. Isn't that term too foreign to know. But why lately has the profession often received negative stigma and stereotypes in society. This assumption is not entirely wrong if we try to draw it from the history of the profession's existence in Indonesia.

Quoted from several sources on the internet, the debt collector profession is a third party appointed by a financial institution/financing company with the aim of collecting debts from delinquent debtors with certain criteria. In short, a debt collector is a third party who works on behalf of the creditor to carry out tasks in the field of debt or credit collection.

It needs to be underlined that debt collector is a profession that is legal in Indonesia and there is no problem with that. As long as in carrying out their duties and responsibilities they are subject to and comply with the applicable procedures and legal provisions.

Still related to this, recently a short video has gone viral showing a debt collector in conflict with a police officer who was trying to be a mediator when several debt collectors tried to forcibly take a vehicle belonging to a celebrity. The video has been watched and distributed quite a lot on a number of social media and has sparked reactions from the public/netizens to comment.

Knowing that incident, Kapolda Metro Jaya Irjen Fadil Imran also reacted and responded. Until now, police have arrested three debt collectors and several others are still being searched.

Reflecting on the viral video, cases of vehicle withdrawals on the streets are not the first time this has happened. It is not known how many tens or even hundreds of cases every day this event is repeated and occurs continuously in people's real lives without ever being exposed by the media.

The problem is not only in the act of withdrawal, but the act is often accompanied by arrogant and intimidating acts in the form of coercion, verbal violence to the point of often leading to fights. This condition is not only detrimental to consumers/debtors, even other road users are also affected.

Technically, the debt collectors work individually or in groups in the field. From the author's experience, the modus/technique used by some of them includes, first, taking a quick look at the license plate number of the vehicle, then tailing it, then trying to squeeze the vehicle to the side until, if there is an opportunity, the debt collectors stop the driver.
