JAKARTA, Legal Literacy— The Police Reform Acceleration Commission has stated that it has completed the task of preparing recommendations for institutional reform of the Indonesian National Police. The Chairman of the Commission, Jimly Asshiddiqie, stated that the results of this work will be reported to the President Prabowo Subianto, with a target of submission before Eid al-Fitr 2026.
Jimly said that his team has requested time to meet directly with the President to submit the Commission's official report. However, the meeting agenda is still awaiting arrangement from the Minister of State Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary, considering the President's busy schedule in recent times.
According to Jimly, the delay in submitting the report is not because the substance of the recommendations is not ready, but because the President's attention is currently also being diverted by various national and international strategic agendas, including the development of the conflict in the Middle East. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the police reform report has in principle been completed and is ready to be presented to the Head of State.
“The Minister of State Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary will arrange it, hopefully before Eid. Yes, because he is very busy right now,” said Jimly after attending the breaking of the fast with President Prabowo and the ulema at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Thursday (5/3/2026) evening.
The completion of this Commission's task is an important phase in the agenda for improving the police force after the August 2025 riots. After the public previously highlighted various structural, cultural, and supervisory issues within the police force, the government is now faced with a more decisive stage, namely assessing and following up on the recommendations that have been comprehensively prepared by the Commission.
