JAKARTA, Legal Literacy – The South Jakarta District Court (PN) today, Wednesday (20/8/2025), held the first hearing for the Case Review (PK) of the defamation case against the 10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla, with the convict Silfester Matutina.
“The hearing is scheduled for 13:00 WIB, but the implementation can be adjusted to the readiness of the parties,” said the Public Relations Officer of the South Jakarta District Court, Rio Barten, Tuesday (19/8).
Silfester's case has received public attention because the Attorney General's Office has not yet executed the decision that has been legally binding since 2019. At that time, Silfester was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison, but remained free for six years. In fact, on March 18, 2025, he was appointed by the Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir as an Independent Commissioner of ID Food or PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (RNI).
The Attorney General's Office actually emphasized that the submission of a Case Review does not postpone the execution. However, until the hearing, the execution of Silfester had not yet been carried out. “Tomorrow is the Case Review hearing, just wait for the Case Review. We'll see tomorrow,” said the Head of the Legal Information Center of the Attorney General's Office, Anang Supriatna. He added, “The Case Review still does not postpone the execution.”
This case began in 2017, when Silfester was reported by Solihin Kalla, Jusuf Kalla's son, regarding his speech accusing JK of using SARA issues to win the Anies Baswedan–Sandiaga Uno pair in the Jakarta gubernatorial election.
Silfester was sentenced to 1 year in prison by the South Jakarta District Court on July 30, 2018. The verdict was upheld at the appeal level on October 29, 2018. However, at the cassation stage, the Supreme Court increased his sentence to 1 year and 6 months in prison.
