Is it Permissible to Close a Road for a Wedding?
It is still common to see residents closing part of the road to hold weddings or other personal events. However, is this action permitted?
According to Law on Road Traffic and Transportation (UU LLAJ) and Regulation of the Head of the Indonesian National Police No. 10/2012 (Perkapolri 10/2012), the use of roads other than for traffic purposes is an action that uses part or all of the road outside the main function of the road. One of these is the use of roads for personal purposes, such as weddings, deaths, and other activities. Road sections that can be used for personal purposes include regency, city, and village roads.
However, if the use of the road results in road closures, then its use is permitted if there is an alternative road and the diversion of traffic flow must be indicated by temporary traffic signs.
In addition, the use of roads for personal purposes that result in road closures must have a road use permit from the Indonesian National Police (Polri). Polri will be responsible for placing officers on the road section to maintain security, safety, order, and smooth traffic and road transportation. Road users outside of the road's function are responsible for all consequences arising.
