Legal Literacy - Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) reflects the quality of women's health and human development. This article discusses the high maternal mortality rate due to unsafe abortions, its relationship to cases of unwanted pregnancies (KTD) due to sexual violence, and the importance of guaranteeing safe abortion services to reduce MMR and protect victims.

Understanding Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR)

Maternal Mortality Rate (hereinafter referred to as MMR) or Maternal Mortality Rate (AKI) is one of the indicators in assessing the health condition of women, as well as being a component of the development index and the quality of life index. Reducing MMR is also included in the 5th goal Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), with efforts to improve health for mothers.[1] Efforts to reduce MMR are actually important for Human Resource development, through health development.[2] Kemeskes data in 2022 shows that the MMR rate in Indonesia is 183 per 100,000 live births. In July 2023, the figure increased to 189 per 100,000 live births. This figure is certainly still far from the target set by World Health Organization (WHO) in Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs) which is 70 per 100,000 live births.[3]
