Legal Literacy - The right to health is a fundamental right protected by law in Indonesia. This article discusses the legal protection for patients in their interactions with the healthcare system.

Right to Health

The right to health is recognized as a fundamental element of human rights. This is reflected in various international legal instruments that articulate the importance of an adequate standard of living for health and well-being. Specifically, in the context of Indonesia, the national constitution and related legislation guarantee every individual's right to access healthcare services. However, the realization of this right is often faced with a number of challenges, especially related to the legal protection for patients in their interactions with the healthcare system.

A comprehensive analysis of the existing legal framework shows that although there are clear provisions regarding the right to healthcare services, practices on the ground often give rise to cases where patients feel they do not receive adequate protection. Cases of medical negligence, for example, lead us to questions about the extent to which patients' rights are protected in medical practice.

The protection of patients' rights in healthcare services is a principle that is upheld, in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health. Nevertheless, there are challenges in its implementation in the field, where there is still room for improvement in terms of equality of service, privacy, and transparency of information regarding medical procedures.

This situation invites the need for increased awareness and understanding from all relevant parties, from healthcare providers to the general public, about the importance of respecting and protecting patients' rights.

Joint efforts in ensuring quality, fair, and non-discriminatory healthcare practices are an important step towards realizing a more inclusive healthcare system that respects the dignity of every individual.

Shared awareness of respect for patients' rights will reflect the progress and civilization of a nation in striving for the common welfare.
