JAKARTA, Legal Literacy — Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Ahmad Muzani believes that Indonesia's involvement in the Board of Peace (BoP) is a concrete step to support Palestinian independence while strengthening the peace process in the Middle East, particularly in Gaza.
Muzani made this statement when met at the Asshiddiqiyah Islamic Boarding School, Jakarta, Sunday (22/2/2026). According to him, Indonesia's participation in the BoP is not only related to the cessation of conflict, but also touches on aspects of reconciliation and reconstruction of the Gaza region.
“We are involved not only in the Middle East peace process, but also in the reconciliation and reconstruction process of Gaza. This is a progressive and concrete step in efforts to support the independence of the Palestinian nation,” said Muzani.
Diplomacy and Indonesia's Position
Muzani mentioned President Prabowo Subianto's diplomatic steps in a series of foreign visits, including to Washington DC, as a positive breakthrough that strengthens Indonesia's position in international forums.
He assessed that the courage of this diplomacy shows Indonesia's commitment to humanitarian issues and global peace. According to Muzani, the situation in Gaza, which is said to be starting to become conducive, gives hope for residents to live their lives, including Ramadan worship, more calmly.
Indonesia's Contribution to BoP
On the government side, the Minister of Foreign Affairs previously stated that Indonesia's involvement in the BoP does not mean an obligation to deposit certain funds. Indonesia's contribution is said to be more focused on a real role in the framework of peace, including readiness to participate in humanitarian or peacekeeping missions in accordance with international mandates and the approval of the parties concerned.
The government also emphasized that every Indonesian involvement remains within the corridor of international law and the principle of a free and active foreign policy.
Economic and Investment Issues
In addition to discussing the Palestinian issue, Muzani also appreciated the achievements of economic diplomacy in the Indonesia–United States meeting. He mentioned plans for investment in various national industrial sectors which are considered to increase competitiveness.
Muzani also assessed the plan to adjust tariffs on Indonesian products in the US market as a positive development for export performance, although its realization is still awaiting follow-up from the agreements that have been built.
