JAKARTA, Legal Literacy — The Chairman of PBNU, Yahya Cholil Staquf, stated that the dues to become a permanent member of the Board of Peace (BoP) established by President Donald Trump are considered important. This is because the program being discussed is related to a major financing agenda for the reconstruction of Gaza.
The statement was conveyed by Yahya in a press conference after meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday (3/2/2026). According to him, the current condition of Gaza requires the mobilization of funding due to the severe damage caused by Israeli aggression.
Yahya explained that the dues are positioned as a contribution to the development agenda of the Palestinian territories in the Mediterranean Sea region. Therefore, participants who join the council are asked to contribute through a dues scheme.
In the meeting held at the Palace, Yahya was accompanied by several leading figures from Islamic community organizations, including the Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council Anwar Iskandar, the Secretary General of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu'ti, the Chairperson of the Muslimat NU Advisory Board Khofifah Indar Parawansa, the Secretary General of PBNU Saifullah Yusuf, and the Vice Chairman of MUI Cholil Nafis.
Previously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia stated that Indonesia has not yet discussed the obligation to pay dues of 1 billion US dollars (approximately IDR 16.9 trillion) to join the BoP. Spokesperson II of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vahd Nabyl Achmad Mulachela, also emphasized that membership does not always require payment, especially if it is not for a permanent seat.
