Jakarta, Legal Literacy - The decision of the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia to stop displaying graphics in the Recapitulation Information System (Sirekap) has drawn criticism from the Spokesperson of the Anies-Muhaimin National Team, Billy David. According to him, this step could cause confusion among the public who are enthusiastically following the results of the 2024 General Election. "Although the aim is to reduce controversy in Sirekap, the lack of socialization of this policy has the potential to create new polemics in the community. The KPU should provide a clearer explanation so as not to continue confusing the public," Billy told Kompas.com.
Billy also highlighted a series of sudden decisions taken by the KPU regarding Sirekap, which he said reflected a lack of preparedness and transparency in the implementation of the Election. He added that this also indicates the insecurity of the KPU's information system from potential cyber attacks or other hidden reasons.
The KPU's move to stop displaying graphics in Sirekap was taken after an error in data reading, which resulted in errors in the vote acquisition results that did not match the data at the Polling Stations (TPS), and caused misunderstandings among the public.
KPU Commissioner, Idham Holik explained that although the graphic display was stopped, the KPU will still upload original photos of the C.Hasil plano form from the TPS as authentic evidence of vote acquisition. He emphasized that the main function of Sirekap is to provide transparency regarding the Election results at each TPS throughout Indonesia.
This decision also had an impact on the polemic regarding the sudden significant increase in the votes of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) in Sirekap. However, according to investigations by the KPU and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), this was due to the imprecision of Sirekap in reading data, not because of manipulation.
